Joseph J. Ellis (born July 18, 1943) is a prominent American historian and author best known for his award-winning works on the Founding Fathers of the United States. He won the Pulitzer Prize for History for Founding Brothers: The Revolutionary Generation and the National Book Award for American Sphinx: The Character of Thomas Jefferson.
