Gretel Ehrlich is a prolific American author, poet, and essayist born in 1946 who is best known for her nature and travel writing such as The Solace of Open Spaces. Educated at Bennington College and UCLA film school, she has published at least 15 books and received honors including a Guggenheim Fellowship and the PEN Henry David Thoreau Award.
